Pumps for Print and Packaging

Pumps for Printers

The print industry is under constant pressure to produce higher quality print ever more quickly and competitively. Flexographic and gravure printing which use solvent and water-based inks, coatings and adhesives, and UV-setting varnishes demand 100% reliability and fast changeover between runs. Peristaltic pumps from Watson-Marlow are the first choice for printers, because they give:

  • Fast changeover and set-up time, reducing waste
  • Total containment with no cross-contamination
  • Smooth low-shear flow - no foaming
  • No expensive air consumption

Shortest changeover time

Watson-Marlow pumps maximise uptime because changing a tube takes less than one minute.

Printer friendly

A tube change or straight-through flushing, plus the pumps' ability to run in reverse, means lines can be quickly emptied and cleaned without waste or mess. Dry-running and self-priming allow automatic start-up.

Smooth and constant flow

Inks, coating and adhesives can be shear sensitive. Unlike other positive displacement and centrifugal pumps, Watson-Marlow pumps provide accurate flow rates across all viscosities, with no foaming or product separation.

Reliability

Pump failure stops print runs. Watson-Marlow pumps have no seals. Valves. Diaphragms, glands or immersed rotors to leak, clog or replace. They are robust and virtually maintenance-free.

Print and Packaging Applications

Print and Packing Pumps

Ink transfer

Watson-Marlow pumps are self-priming, eliminating problems of poor ink flow at start-up. Peristaltic pumps meter fluids through a tube from source to delivery which means the ink does not contact the pump at any stage.

Sump/waste transfer

When it comes to waste that may contain machine washings, ink and coatings, a peristaltic pump is the easiest way of moving the liquid to and from your sump tank. The capability to handle viscous solutions and most of the aggressive additives has obvious benefits.

Coatings

For handling a wide range of water or solvent based coatings, glues and adhesives, a peristaltic pump is the obvious choice.

Aseptic Filling and Capping Systems

Aseptic Filling and Capping

Watson-Marlow Flexicon provides accurate, adaptable and efficient aseptic filling and capping systems for low to middle-sized manufacturing applications.  Everything from benchtop filling systems to semi-automatic filling machines and completely automated and integrated fill/stopper/capping equipment is available. Fully automatic filling systems are customised to fit any glass vial, plastic bottle, test tube, eyedropper or non-self standing microtube. All Flexicon filling machines incorporate single-use tubing.

Flexicon system advantages:

  • No cleaning validation
  • Easy product changeover
  • Disposable aseptic fluid path filling accessories including tubes, nozzles and bags
  • No cross-contamination
  • High-accuracy filling

Lab21, which supports healthcare providers and the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries with technically advanced testing services, has installed two semi-automatic Flexicon FF series tabletop filling machines. These have improved accuracy and relieved repetitive manual operations at two of its diagnostic product facilities. The FF30 has a filling range from 0.1 to 100ml with an accuracy of ±0.5%. Only the tube needs to be changed to adjust the filling range.
