Beacon Packaging based in Hampshire have recently relocated from their Alton factory to a much larger more modern factory in Aldershot.
Nicholls Air Systems Ltd had installed two extract plants in Alton. These served four machines; these included an automatic die cutter machine and three Printer Slotter machines. Two powerful fans transported the waste card to a semi automatic Baler.
In order to allow for a smooth factory change-over NAS loaned to Beacon another Baler. This was installed in January of 2007. A powerful fan and extraction system was provided as a temporary measure to allow both the old and new sites to run independently.
During the summer a comprehensive fully automatic waste card handling system was designed and installed by NAS.
The new system comprises of two main extraction fans, each fan discharges into its own separator. The waste card is then deposited into one of two compactors. A two way valve automatically directs the card into an empty bin. When the bin is full the valve changes over and fills the second bin. This allows for the full bin to be collected and taken away for the card to be recycled.
The extracted air and dust is filtered by two continuously rated compressed air cleaned bag filters. The collected dust is automatically transferred back to the compactors for recycling.
An addition to the system is a 1500mm wide shredder; this allows the large sheets of cardboard to be automatically disposed of directly into the compactors, via the air system. The shredder is housed in an acoustic enclosure.
There are plans for 2008 for additional machinery to go into the new factory; these machines were taken into account during the initial designs.
