The recent Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between Secomak and the University of Hertfordshire has been officially classed as ‘Outstanding’ by the KTP grading panel. The classification, which is only awarded to the top 2% of all KTPs, recognises the exceptional contribution of Secomak in developing industry leading technology solutions for the drying industry.

New Developments in Drying Solutions

The partnership, which is partially funded by the Government, was designed specifically to build on Secomak’s commitment to sustainability and address the future demands of drying solutions in the food and beverage industries. The resulting products set a new standard in drying solutions by combining scientifically driven design with highly streamlined and fit for purpose energy consumption systems:

The first major development was the Secomak ECOPACK, which utilises an intelligent supply on demand system to ensure exactly fit for purpose energy use and reduce consumption up to 60% compared to an uncontrolled system.

Secondly, the Secomak DRYGUIDE employs a stable guidance system over the length of the machine to create a high velocity collision of airflow. The result is optimal dispersion of water from container surfaces, even in the toughest drying conditions, such as large PET bottles at high speed.

Lastly, the POWERCAT (Controlled Atmosphere Tunnel), which contains a Dew Point control system to ensure zero condensation on production lines and results in a far superior labelling finish. The three products have also been combined into the Secomak DRYING TUNNEL – a low-energy, top-end solution for high-speed, high-quality bottling lines where a collection of moisture can seriously slow down the production process.

In addition to the development of these new technologies, and as part of Secomak’s commitment to continuous innovation, a dedicated Drying Centre was opened at the University of Hertfordshire so that Secomak could continue to build and share it’s expertise in the ‘science of drying’ with students of the University. The facility also allows Secomak to maintain its fine reputation for designing and demonstrating solutions which exactly meet the customers’ needs, even in the most intense drying environments.

David Palmer, one of the recipients of the award, is now responsible for supplying the UK market with drying solutions. He commented:

“The award demonstrates our unrivalled drying expertise and devotion to understanding the commercial implications of capital projects. The technology we have developed as part of the KTP has already supplied several large customers with drying solutions in projects ranging from aerosol drying across several production lines, to low speed micro-breweries. The creation of the Drying Centre at the University of Hertfordshire ensures that Secomak supply every customer with the best level of service, and we welcome trials at the facility. Whether the customer needs to dry machined parts, bottles or vegetables, they know that Secomak are the people to call.”

The recent KTP achievement completes a hat-trick of awards to recognise the technological innovations arising from the partnership and reinforces Secomak’s position at the forefront of the drying solutions industry.
