Leading foils manufacturer, API Foils, has entered into a new phase of its business relationship with quality label manufacturer, Multi Labels by using its revolutionary new cold foiling technology - Dieless cold foil.

Dieless cold foil has been developed to make the creative and marketing benefits of foiling available to brands whose packaging would be damaged by conventional hot stamping. As well as self-adhesive labels on semi-gloss and gloss papers and filmic substrates, the range of applications includes toothpaste tubes, unsupported films and web printed cartons.

The new dieless cold foil is easy to apply and involves applying a free radical UV adhesive – using conventional printing equipment – onto the substrate before the foil itself is nipped on at a laminator immediately after the print unit. The foil is then passed through the UV lamp in contact with the adhesive, removing the waste carrier and leaving the foil image.

Dieless cold foilSays, Hayley Shuttle, marketer for Multi Labels: “We’ve been dealing with API Foils since 1994, when we used to buy hot foil for our Markem LP 830. It was a natural progression to use cold foil and to use API as our supplier. A number of our customers in the food industry are beginning to see the benefits of cold foil technology and we believe it is something we will be using on a larger volume in the future.”

One Multi Labels’ client who has already experienced the benefits of using cold foil technology is Cornwall based Mr. Baker Foods Ltd. Rod Baker says: “Having seen the impact that excellent quality and attractive labels can have on our sales, we recently took the advice of Multi Labels and introduced cold foil technology to the design. The results have been amazing.”

David Jarvis, Business Development Manager at API Foils, says: “Dieless cold foil once again demonstrates our innovation in the development of new products and our ability to produce products that meet the needs of the market. As it can be used on substrates that may be adversely affected by hot stamping, Dieless cold foil will bring the benefits of foil technology to sectors that had previously been excluded.”
